When I received the phone call offering me the opportunity to be the Chieftain at the Highland Games I found it difficult to take in. The caller was clear but I was not sure in my own mind if I understood it properly. My problem wasn't I think, that I was having difficulty in accepting that such an honour was being offered to me. So many outstanding people have been Chieftain over the years and I am humbled and delighted to join their ranks.
Over the past couple of months, I have had an insight to the work of the chairman and the committee. These volunteers are so dedicated and committed to their tasks that you cannot fail to be impressed.
This is the Fortieth Anniversary of the Ardrossan Highland Games and I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to all those men and women who have volunteered their work, talents and energy over the years to keep this important tradition within our community. Clearly, we are hoping for a nice sunny day but whatever the weather at the games this year it will not dampen our gratitude for all those who have worked, organised and taken part in this important event over the past forty years. On behalf of the community, THANK YOU.
