It is an absolute honour and privilege for me as Chieftain to warmly welcome you to the Ardrossan Highland Games 2023 ~ “Always the 2nd Sunday in June”
When Alastair Arnott, Chairman AHG came to see me, I was under the impression it was for fundraising advice on an event being held in Largs, eventually he admitted that was just a ruse and the real reason was to invite me on behalf of the committee to be the Chieftain for this year’s Ardrossan Highland Games.
It goes without saying, I was quite overwhelmed, but also delighted and honoured to have been nominated to take on the role of Chieftain at what is a prestigious event in the Highland Games Calendar
The Ardrossan Highland Games, held in the local Memorial Playing Fields are eagerly awaited on by family, friends and neighbours from near and far for a great social occasion, whilst watching the Pipe Bands, Heavies and Solo Piping Competitions, not forgetting of course, the many competitors participating in the Highland Dancing Competitions
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the competitors ‘Every Success’ on the day. But I’d say you are all Winners.
Having been involved in the past as Vice Chair for the Games, I am aware that events like this don’t ‘just happen’ so I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the Ardrossan Highland Games Committee for all the time given and hardworking efforts behind the scenes to ensure a smooth-running, successful and safe Highland Games for us all to relax and enjoy a super fun day out for all ~ with something for everyone!
It is also without a doubt, the continued and much relied on help and support given in many ways from large and small local companies along with individuals is very much appreciated and has enabled the Games to flourish year on year. This year is no exception ~ Thank you to each one listed on the Sponsors Page in the programme.
Finally, thank you to everyone for supporting the games this year, have a wonderful day and I am sure the sun will shine (but, I’ve got my wellies to hand just in case!)
I am looking forward to the Games and meeting up with everyone, until then take care. With best wishes
