CHIEFTAIN'S MESSAGE

No-one could ever imagine how shocked, stunned and amazed I was when I was told I was selected to be this year's Chieftain.

I am truly humbled and honoured to have been chosen as chieftain of this, the 43rd Ardrossan Highland Games. To be following in the footsteps of some extraordinary men and woman in indeed an accolade. I am next in a long line of wonderful people whom I hold in high regards.

However, I see this as recognition, not just for myself, wife and kids, but for all the volunteers who give their time and talents continuously for the benefit of the whole community. Volunteers are the backbone of our society, whether it's running kids football clubs, littler picking or organising galas and events. In fact, Ardrossan Highland Games has had committees full of willing volunteers for over 40 years!!

For myself, I got involved because I care about the local community and believe that we can leave a legacy for future generations. I am a member of Seasalts Streets (Saltcoats Town Centre Regerneration), S.A.L.T (the group which resurrected Winton Circus Playpark) and now Ripple Effect: Saltcoats (currently trying to reinstate Melbourne Toilets and Park). I always believe the "Teamwork makes the Dreamwork).

The Annual Ardrossan Highland Games Day at the Memorial Playing Fields are the highlight of many folks' calendars - "Always the 2nd Sunday in June!!". It is eagerly awaited as an opportunity for friends, family and visitors from near and far to get together and socialise and enjoy a family focussed day of entertainment.

The games don't just happen! Months of working behind the scenes, organising, planning, booking, and ticking off veery long lists. Ardrossan Highland Games Committee organise the dance, competitions, pipe band, and solo competitions, not forgetting the ever-popular heavies' event. The committee also arrange groups to man the gates, staff the carpark, hospitality, first aid, P.A systems and much much more….someone must order the temporary toilets!!

The Games Committee also organise the many stalls and craft tent, fairground rides, and local community group tents. All to ensure that we have a day to remembers. Forgive me if I've missed you out!!

However, a massive thank you must go to the Games sponsors - Largs and small local companies and businesses - whose continuous support enables Ardrossan Highland Games to be the success it has been since year one.

Finally, as proud Chieftain of the 43rd Ardrossan Highland Games, have a wonderful day. Take time to enjoy the company of friends and visitors, make memories, take photos, and upload them. This is your day, enjoy it.

I look forward to meeting and talking to each and every one of you. The sun has been ordered - my wee mammy, Mary Ellen, is in charge of that.

Best wishes, Glenn Turner
